FOOD is a research school within food science and technology with industrial support. FOOD covers all aspect of food science, food technology and human nutrition.
FOOD was started in 2003 as collaboration between institutes at The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (KVL) and The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the following research institutions: The Danish Institute of Agricultural Science (DJF), Danish Institute for Fisheries Research (DFU), Danish Institute of Food and Veterinary Research (DVFV), Technological Institute (TI), and major food and food ingredient industries.
In 2007 the Danish university landscape changed due to the university reform, in which KVL became the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Copenhagen, while DFU and DFVF became departments at DTU. DJF merged with University of Aarhus. The MAPP-centre at Aarhus School of Business (University of Aarhus) did also join FOOD officially in 2007. The partners in FOOD are therefore now: University of Copenhagen, The Technical University of Denmark and University of Aarhus. Due to all these changes FOOD are currently revising the bylaws (April 2008).
A number of PhD scholarships allocated to the Graduate School are co-funded by the Danish Research Training Council, the universities and the private food sector.
FOOD is organized and managed by Centre for Advanced Food Studies (LMC). LMC's central position in the Danish food science gives a unique basis for ensuring wide and depth in the research education. The industry is ensured influence through a financing model, where the industry or the organization co fund the individual research scholarships, and the individual PhD educations are carried out in collaboration with the industry.
